Catherine Muigai Mwangi

High Commissioner

Catherine Muigai Mwangi is Kenya`s Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of South Africa and accredited to the Kingdom of Eswatini and Kingdom of Lesotho.

Prior to her current appointment she served as Kenya`s Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), as well as United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Until December 2019, she was accredited as an Ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti and Permanent Representative to the Inter-Government Authority on Development (IGAD).

She also served as Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of Ireland from 2007 to 2014. She was Kenya’s first envoy to that country; during her tour of duty she was instrumental in promoting Kenya’s economic interests in Ireland. She also chaired the Africa-Ireland Economic Forum which stimulated Africa-Ireland economic activities.

Preceding her entry into diplomacy, High Commissioner Mwangi worked in various capacities in both government and the private sector where she specialised in corporate strategy development, marketing, communications, brand management, operations and personnel management. Throughout her career she has gained a vast amount of professional experience and has established an excellent network of contacts worldwide.
