Advocate Tseliso Thipanyane (B.Sc., LL.B., and LL.M.), is the Chief Executive Officer of the South African Human Rights Commission. Thipanyane has over 25 years of professional working experience in public policy, human rights, good governance, and democracy issues. He holds LL.M degrees in human rights, criminal justice and constitutional law. He is passionate and committed to the promotion and protection of human rights. Previously, Advocate Thipanyane spent over twelve years at the South African Human Rights Commission where he was head of research and later the Chief Executive Officer. He has held lecturing and research positions on human rights law, politics and criminal justice at Columbia University Law School (New York), Ramapo College of New Jersey, University of the Western Cape (Cape Town) and the University of KwaZulu- Natal. He also has numerous publications on human rights, national human rights institutions, criminal justice and has presented papers on human rights issues at several national and international conferences. He believes that the vision of free, prosperous and democratic societies will not be effectively realised without safer and more secure societies.
