Dr Magomola has had a distinguished business career both in South Africa and in the United States where he lived for several years. Shortly after his release from Robben Island where he was detained as a political prisoner for six years, Dr Magomola was awarded a Fullbright-Hayes Fellowship to study business in America. He studied successfully for an MBA and completed a two-year internship as a Financial Analyst with a major US corporation and later joined Citibank. Upon his return to South Africa in the mid 80’s, he played a major role in business initiatives that later gave birth to what is today known as Black Economic Empowerment. His professional experiences include heading African Bank and chairing FABCOS, a coalition of Black business organisations in various industry sectors. Dr Magomola was awarded a Honorary Doctorate degree by the University of Zululand at a graduation ceremony in 2022 for his outstanding contribution to business and economic development in South Africa.
